If it's not on our menu, it doesn't mean Bay Area Coffee can't roast a blend to a retailer's most exacting specifications. However, Bay Area Coffee has developed flavor descriptions for eleven "straight" coffees in our bulk line, nine special blends and 15 different flavored coffees. Following are a few thoughts on selected examples from each category: French Roast: This blend of larger Central American organic coffees is defined by an unusually large bean size. This yields a classic smoky flavor and syrupy rich body with a high-octane kick. Espresso Roast: A special blend of South American and Central American mild and hard bean coffees, this roast allows for the maximum expression of that smooth creamy espresso with a full-bodied flavor. French Roast Decaffeinated: The darker roast adds significant flavor intensity and body, as well as a lingering taste. With the best decaffeinated beans that money can buy, the Roastmaster's salary is earned by bringing forth French roast characteristics while not covering the flavor attributes of the beans themselves.
Fair Trade Italian Roast: The International Coffee Organization is made up of producing and consuming countries that reach trade agreement to foster balanced production, improved quality, increased consumption and stability in prices. These are goals very vital to the economic development of these countries. This high quality, washed arabica blend is from selected producing countries that are active in this organization and the accomplishment of its objectives. Organic Espresso Roast: Only a very small percentage of quality coffee beans produced are grown without the use of commercial pesticides or fertilizers. Selecting the organically grown beans best suited for dark roasting narrows the supply even further. The result from combining these attributes provides the consumer with optimum flavor and peace of mind. Shade Grown Full City Roast: Coffee grown higher on the mountains develops harder, more dense beans that have more intense flavor. The temperature is lower at higher altitude and the coffee beans mature more slowly. Another method of controlling the temperature is planting large shade trees throughout the fields. This allows the coffee to mature evenly and more slowly, again, contributing to fuller flavor devlopment. This is a blend of washed arabicas from Central and South America made only of coffee beans that are both high grown and selected from shade grown plantations. Roasted to a perfect "medium roast" we call Full City Roast.
Morning Lift: With the full flavor or a medium-dark roast, this blend has a gentle acidic taste and a slightly bittersweet finish — the perfect drink for morning. Mocha Java: The classic of blended coffees and a favorite of coffee connoisseurs, this blend produces a smooth and piquant beverage, with a fine aroma, flavor and body. To gain additional sharpness, Bay Area Coffee adds Harrar to this blend. Kona Blend: The finest Kona coffees from the big island of Hawaii are blended with high mountain Arabica coffees from Central America. This light-roasted coffee has an uncompromising taste and rich coffee flavor.
Special Blend : A special blend of Bay Area Coffee, this is made with only the finest washed Arabica beans from South America and Central America. The beans in this blend are selected and sorted for bean size, grade and even roasting characteristics, which gives a blend master tremendous advantage; quality can be maintained much easier than with a single source coffee. To give the special blend its distinctive qualities, Bay Area gives its beans a "full city roast". Four Corners Blend: With coffee harvested year round, the art and science of blending is what enables a master roaster to offer a consistent taste at all times. A 100 percent mix of Arabica coffees, Four Corners will taste the same in December as in May. All Nighter Blend: The fuel for a working mind, this blend of Central American coffees is one heavy cup. Not smoky, but stronger than your average Joe, this is the coffee that can jump start even the most bone-tired and weary.
Low Acid Tummy Friendly: By processing the beans in a specific manner that reduces the acidity, you can now enjoy flavor and body without the negative impact of excess acid on your system. Enjoy taste without uncomfortable aftereffects when drinking this brew. Jamaican High Mountain Blend: This 12% blend of the world’s most sought after coffee delivers excellence with smooth, well rounded flavorful coffee notes. The rarity and limited availability of this coffee requires us to offer our version in a blended manner. However, the proof is in the cup. No name dropping – just an excellent cup in a perfect medium roast.
Colombian Supreme: The intense flavor, balanced body and aromatic qualities Colombian coffee have brought it the highest level of consumer acceptability and preference. It is, simply, unmistakable. By carefully selecting the larger beans from various regions, Bay Area Coffee can optimize the virtues of this popular coffee. Colombian Dark Roast: The classic beans from Colombia are roasted darker, yet the beverage retains rich flavor with medium acidity and a hint of wine. Kenya: A rich, bourbon-like coffee, this has a delicate tang and a dry, wine-like aftertaste.
Sumatra: Considered one of the world's finest coffees, this rich flavored beverage has an almost syrupy body. 100% Panamanian: From "the Land of Passage", this full bodied and smooth coffee has the most delicate acidity, which makes it easy on sensitive digestive systems. 100% Kona: This 100% Kona coffee is a light roasted arabica coffee from the Kona coffee growing region in Hawaii. The roast master skillfully nurtures the beans to a golden color. Once ground and brewed, the true essence of this Kona coffee is released, revealing a pleasing aroma and taste unsurpassed in clarity of mild acidity and flavorful body. These Kona coffee farms are located on the western slopes of Mauna Loa in the heart of the Kona coffee growing region. Sheltered from the tradewinds and harsh tropical sun, the coffee is grown in the higher elevations protected by afternoon clouds and showers. The trees flourish in the deep rich volcanic soil yielding the finest coffees in the world. The result is a coffee mellow, smooth and rich with body and is pleasing to enjoy cup after cup.
100% Sumatra French Roast: Sumatra Coffee, grown in Indonesia, is often referred to as full bodied, rich and smooth. This coffee is a perfect varital to roast dark, brew strong, and enjoy in a leisurely way. Selecting these beans to represent our French Roast confirms our quest for superior flavorful tasting coffees. Optimum flavor for the consumer with a "mood set" for "peace of mind." 100% Yemen Mocha: Yemen, the birthplace of the coffee bean and a smaller producer, offers unique characteristics of flavor and aroma that eventually brought worldwide demand for coffee beverages. The Mocha flavors that grow only in Yemen and Ethiopia are foreign, yet familiar, with a balanced body and aroma delivering winery character.
Caramel Crème: Rich, cooked caramel in the tradition of English toffee is combined with delicate ribbons of sweet vanilla. The coffee has the taste of melted chewy caramels with a satiny-smooth texture. Chocolate Macadamia Nut: Smooth and creamy milk chocolate is combined with an exotic Hawaiian macadamia nut flavor. Chocolate Raspberry: Velvety smooth milk chocolate is blended with ripe red raspberry flavors, which gives this coffee a fresh and hand-picked appeal. The result is a coffee with the taste of the ultimate rich confection.
Irish Crème: Sweet and creamy with intense Irish whiskey notes, this full-bodied coffee is the perfect blend of dairy and liqueur, but which can be enjoyed at all times of the day. Vanilla Nut Crème: TOne of our best flavors! This blend of lightly roasted South and Central American coffees is then flavored to give it a sharp nut flavor enhanced with sweet, warm vanilla. Southern Pecan: This has a slow-roasted nut appeal that calls to mind the pecans used in traditional Southern pies and confections. The beverage gives one all the goodness of glazed pecans without the calories of real nuts.
